News: The Brown Indian band tours Europe
jazzgoa writes They have carved a niche in India and they are out to make a mark in Europe now. The Brown Indian Band is all set to wow 18 cities across that continent next year. And their European adventure comes with a rare honour for any Indian band: In April 2007, when the band rocks Europe, they will actually be doing so as the opening act for the legendary singer Sting in a series of concerts. It all started at JW Marriott hotel, where the band has been playing regularly since April. " After a particular peformance sometime ago, a guest walked up to me with an irresistable offer: he said he could put me through to Sting, and that the rock icon was looking to perform with an Indian band," recalls Colin D'Cruz who plays fretless bass with the group.

New Books: The Living Word of Kuan Yin
kuanyinspirit writes "If every human being could recognize the power of the love and forgiveness principle all consciousness on earth would change instantly. Indeed, thoughts can change the course of history. Sometimes, all it takes is enough people knowing about a certain concept.” “Rapid changes are coming,” portends Kuan Yin. “It’s an urgent time for energies to evolve. I don’t think of it as a happy time, however it is an opportunity for some to propel themselves into a kind of purification. The process is being sped up, an acceleration creating awe-inspiring changes affecting every aspect of life. There are a group of souls who are using this time to help propel them forward. “This process can be compared to a ship catching the wind in a certain way. Those catching this wind will need to be skillful, knowledgeable and willing to let go, like a navigator or a sailor. “And like a sailor’s knowledge and deep respect for the sea, these people will need to know when to "turn the ship" and when to let go. Skillful in utilizing the "winds of these times", they will have me as their sail." Kuan Yin (5-04)

Overview: The Almighty Breath
prem_nirmal writes Svara yoga is an ancient science that correlates the breath with the sun, moon and the five elements, helping us to control moods, heal ailments and be attuned to the cosmic rhythm
Would you like to know how to meditate better? How to be more effective when addressing an important personage? How to change a mood or feeling? How to be in rhythm with the universe through the day? Well, believe it or not, the answer lies in the breath. And svara yoga is the science that helps you to understand how to maximise your potential by manipulating your breath. A holistic branch of knowledge found in Shaiva Tantra, svara yoga is said to have originated as a result of a question Shakti asks on the nature of the governing forces of the universe. Lord Shiva gave her a detailed and profound tuition on svara yoga in response. The word “svara” in Sanskrit means sound or a musical note. It also means the continuous flow of air through one nostril. The word yoga means union. Thus svara yoga is the science of breathing undertaken for the realisation of cosmic consciousness. This knowledge was kept secret since the Vedic period and imparted only to a select few, mostly kings and dedicated spiritual seekers through the guru-shishya parampara.

Reviews: The King Never Smiles?
tantidharo writes This is a review of William Stevenson's very well written The Revolutionary King: The True-life Sequel to "The King and I" (1999). Written in the tones of an authorized biography, Stevenson, it seems, had unprecedented access to the Thai Royal Court and became a true confidant to the Siamese Monarch, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Not only is the book a very good read, it is also highly informative. The author skilfully orientates his reader by presenting essential historical facts. In particular, he traces events from between the world wars to the premature death of King Ananda Mahidol, Rama VIII, on the 9th of June, 1946. The mysterious death of the present king's brother thus hangs as an ominous curtain of intrique. It opens with timidity but eventually ushers the revival, indeed the 'revolution' of the Chakri Dynasty through the fearless rulership of the American-born Bhumibol, crowned King Rama IX on the 5th of May, 1950.

easternbookcorporation writes by Sharma, D P and Madhuri Sharma (ed) 2006, 29 cms., pp. xvi+533, col pls. 53, figs. 68, ISBN 8174790721 Set US$ 105.88 or Rs. 4500
According to a scholar the Harappan Civilization is the gift of two rivers - the Indus and Sarasvati whose tributaries had played a dominant and decisive role in the origin of this bronze civilization. As of now around 2658 Harappan and its associated sites have been reported, of which 1058 sites are located in the dried-up bank of the Sarasvati river. The Sarasvati was a mighty river between ca. 5000 and 1800 B.C. Around ca. 1800 B.C., due to neo-tectonic movements in the Himalayas, the river started drying up. It flowed down from the Himalayas to Adi Badri towards Desalpur in Gujarat.
